Quote of the day / Cita del día
"Earth and sky, woods and fields, lakes and rivers, the mountain and the sea, are excellent schoolmasters, and teach some of us more than we can ever learn from books."
"La Tierra y el cielo, bosques y prados, lagos y ríos, montañas y océanos, son excelentes maestros de escuela y nos enseñan más que cualquier cosa que podemos aprender en los libros."

MIDWAY
First of all I have to say sorry for my absences the last days. I have been suffering a food poisoning and I have salmonella and amoebas. So I had hard days and I could not right.
I could not even prepare an own post so what I am going to share today is something that I saw on facebook yesterday in the wall of a group that I am member (Scuba Diver Life)
The video is a trailer of a film that wants to show us how birds are dieing because of the plastics of the Pacific Garbage Patch. Interesting to watch it and think about it.

Paints in Dumaguete / Pinturas en Dumaguete

One of the samples are the work they are doing in the high schools all over the country. Environmental issues are a must and children have to work on that. Here there is an example that I found walking around Dumaguete in the external walls of a high school. Beautiful to find this kind of works, and share it with you my readers.

Quote of the day / Cita del día
Today I was inspired and I had following thought when I was on the beach.
"The human is the only organism on Earth that destroy everything that give him whatever he needs to survive"
"El ser humano es el único organismo en la Tierra que destruye todo aquello que le proporciona lo que necesita para sobrevivir"
Care for Gaia

Sustainaility / Sostenibilidad
Many times people do not understand what sustainability means. Here you have a very good video that explains in a very simple way the concept of sustainability.

Quote and video of the day / Cita y vídeo del día
Today is Friday and weekend is coming. I wish you a lovely time with your friends and relatives. Here you have a quote and a video that will make you think and I use to teach kids about sustainability:
Hoy es viernes y el fin de semana llega. Os deseo que lo paséis bien con vuestros amigos y familiares. Os dejo una cita y un vídeo que os hará pensar y que he utilizado para enseñar a niños sobre sostenibilidad:
"The Earth is not a heritage from our parents, it is a loan from our children"
"La Tierra no es una herencia de nuestros padres, es un préstamo de nuestros hijos"
Old Indian proverb. Antiguo refrán Indio

Quote of the day
After all, I don't see why I am always
asking for private, individual, selfish miracles when every year
there are miracles like white dogwood.

How to be eco-friendly with a plastic bag
Here you have a video I took yesterday. My friend Elmn from South Africa is showing us how to be eco-friendly with a plastic bag. The important thing is not the plastic bag itself but the way to use it.
Definitely it is an easy way to be more efficient and eco-friendly. Thanks Elmn

Raining day in Shanghai
Yesterday I could not post because blogger was not working well. Maybe because of the censure in China... Today I should post yesterday post, but it can wait till tomorrow. Today is raining in Shanghai and it is more important to condemn a stupid habit that Chinese have when it rains. I will explain you as best as I can.
Shanghai, has many offices buildings. It is the city with more skyscrapers in the world. All of these buildings were built with fancy materials and designed to be the most fancy ever. But nobody thought that it could be a problem when it rains... and in Shanghai, it rains a lot. Every floor is made of slippery materials when water is on them. So coming inside to the buildings when it rains is a dangerous task and an added risk for going to work
This is even funny when you see people slipping... but what I will tell you now will probably make you cry. To avoid slipping people, brilliant Chinese minded person thought: why do not we release a plastic bag for umbrellas when they get into the building? Bingo! they found a cheap solution for this little problem and they can keep their fancy buildings. Here you have the machine... (pic on the right side)
Instead of using carpets, that are reusable and you can keep them for a pretty long time, they deliver plastic bags. Do you know how many people is living in Shanghai? 20 million. Maybe 5 to 7 million of them are going everyday to these kind of buildings and they are receiving a plastic "condom" bag for their umbrellas when it rains.
Each rainy day in Shanghai, uncountable plastic bags are being delivered within any control and making our planet more dirty.
(Here you have a happy Chinese with his plastic bag)

And here on the right side you have the result of an umbrella with it "condom"
I do not know if you can see the damage that it represents to our planet. And I am pretty sure that it is not something that it is only being done in Shanghai. Other cities in China are doing as well. And I am pretty sure that many other countries in the world have the same stupid habit. Tomorrow post will make you think deeper about it. It is a video about our daily actions...
By the way, I was inspired to post it today because I refused to use the plastic bag for my umbrella and someone in the door tried to force me to use it. I did not know that water is worse than a plastic bag...
PS. Of course I did not use it and I use my hand to drain the water from my umbrella.

7 billion people!
Today has born the 7 billion inhabitant of our planet. We welcome her to our beautiful home. There is space enough for all of us. We just have to change our habits, and everyone can live in harmony. If you want to have a baby, remember that you have to be more sensitive about sustainability and environment. If you already had children, teach them how to protect our home and how to respect others. And if you are already a grandparent, never is late to change to be better.

OCEANS (DOCUMENTARY)
Dear followers! Last year I watched a very beautiful documentary called Oceans. I would say is the best documentary ever because of the images they filmed and the great idea of showing us that the oceans are extremely connected to us and rest of living being on earth. Here you have the trailer. However you should watch it and FEEL it.

The Gaia theory
I think the first post after welcoming post should be about Gaia Theory. It is an interesting point of view about how the planet behaves as a system.
If you have watched AVATAR (the film) you will easily understand the theory.
Here the link of the official website: http://www.gaiatheory.org/
Is the universe behaving in the same way as a bigger system?
