Quote of the day / Cita del día

I have been travelling for few days and I had problems with Internet connection. Sorry if you were waiting for more posts.
He estado viajando los últimos días y no he tenido mucho acceso a Internet. Perdonad si estabais esperando más entradas. Poco a poco retomaré la normalidad.

Quote of the day / Cita del día

"And this, our life, exempt from public haunt, finds tongues in trees, books in the running brooks, sermons in stones, and good in everything."
"Y esta, nuestra vida, exenta de refugio público, encuentra lenguas en los árboles, libros en los arroyos, sermones en las piedras y bondad en todo."

Quote of the day / Cita del día

Today has been a long day. I finished my first lecture in The Philippines and everybody liked it. I am so happy. Tomorrow I will give you more details about the experience. For today I have prepared a quote:

Hoy ha sido un día muy largo. He terminado mi primera conferencia en Filipinas y a todo el mundo le ha gustado. Estoy muy contento, mañana os daré más detalles de la experiencia. Para hoy una cita:

"I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright."
"Creo que hay un magnetismo inapreciable en la Naturaleza, el cuál, si estamos inconscientemente influenciados, nos dirige en la dirección correcta."

Locals fishing on the beach / Locales pescando en la playa

Today I am posting a video where we can see how locals fish on the beach with a handmade net. Kids are helping their fathers to pick up the fishes and learn about how to do it. They were explaining me that they do not come every day. Just sometimes, in this way they let the fishes reproduce again. This is sustainability.

Plants made of plastic bottles / Plantas hechas de botellas de plástico

In one of my trips around The Philippines I went to Moalboal. Moalboal is a small village 2 hours from Cebu that have a lot of famous diving spots. I went to have some beers one of the days and I found plastic plants made from plastic bottles. It is not the most fancy plant, but definetly is a good way to reuse a plastic bottle in an environmental friendly establishment.

Quote of the day / Frase del día

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."

John Burroughs

"Encontrar  los elementos universales suficientes, encontrar el aire y el agua estimulantes, ser refrescado por un paseo en la mañana o por la tarde, estar entusiasmados por las estrellas en la noche, apreciar el nido de un pájaro o una flor silvestre en primavera - estas son algunas de las recompensas de la vida simple ".

Bali 3

Dear readers,

Apologies for being so long disconnected. Here in El Nido, (where I am now) There is no electricity till 2 pm everyday and there is no wifi in every place. So it is not than easy to keep blog updated.
Anyway, here I am again and I wanted to let you know what I picked up in other beach in Indonesia, Nusa Dua at Bali.
On this beach, you can find a lot of good resorts. Beach is white sand and blue water beach. We could say that is one of the best beaches in Bali for resting and relaxing.
Here is where my good friend Dziga told me when he saw me picking up rubbish... Why don´t you post it in Care for Gaia? And he encouraged me to do it in every beach I am from that moment. So here you have what I picked up in just 10 minutes.
As you can see, it is a lot of rubbish on a beach that should be very clean for high budget tourism. But it is not.
I am still remembering the faces of the local people when they saw us with the blue plastic bag full of rubbish.
They could not believe it and somehow, they did not understand why we were doing this.

A lot of work from every of us to educate people for this. Fortunately, I can say that Philippines is different. I have seen good behaviours here and I will share with you asap.

Quote of the day

As I like to do on Fridays or Mondays here you have a beautiful quote:
I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees.  The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets.  It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day.  It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful.  Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail; and when I hear the coyote wailing to the yellow dawn, my cares fall from me - I am happy.
Hamlin Garland, McClure's, February 1899

Biomimicry

"Biomimicry or biomimetics is the examination of nature, its models, systems, processes, and elements to emulate or take inspiration from in order to solve human problems. The term biomimicry and biomimetics come from the Greek words bios, meaning life, and mimesis, meaning to imitate. Other terms often used are bionicsbio-inspiration, and biognosis." Wikipedia

As you can see finally some people is looking what is in front of us to get answers.

As I always do, I recommend you to check official website here to get more information about it.

Wangari Maathai

Few days ago, Wangari Maathai passed away because of a cancer. Maathai was one of the most important defenders of our planet. She was fighting hard in Africa and she was first woman in Africa to receive the Nobel Piece Prize.
Mother of the Green Belt Movement was focused on planting trees, environmental conservation and women rights.

Gaia lost an icon, but we can keep her spirit alive. Lets have a thought or pray on her and her family.

Whales Hunting

Dear followers...

Sorry for this absence last week. I have been busy and I could not keep posting.

I would like to share with you an interesting new about the whales hunting. It defines how the whales and other animals hunting changes the ocean.

We usually forget oceans are the origin of the life on earth. With our actions, we are changing the oceans ecology and as consequence of it, the balance of the planet.

Here you have as well a link to the information about whaling and the link for the International Whaling Commission that regulates the hunting of these animals.
Let's stop the abusive hunting!

Quote of the day

Sometimes a simple sentence like this, is full of meaning:

"Man's heart away from nature becomes hard."
Standing Bear

I think is the perfect first quote for Care for Gaia.

The Gaia theory

I think the first post after welcoming post should be about Gaia Theory. It is an interesting point of view about how the planet behaves as a system.

If you have watched AVATAR (the film) you will easily understand the theory.

Here the link of the official website: http://www.gaiatheory.org/

Is the universe behaving in the same way as a bigger system?
