Bali 2

After two months almost coming back from Bali, I have settle some ideas about Bali and I would like to share with you my opinions.
Bali is one of the most famous islands in the South East Asia. It belongs to Indonesia, and it is the most common touristic area in this country.
Very famous for surfing, Australians and surfers from everywere meet in Bali to enjoy it brave waters in the south. Kuta, is the main meeting point but you can find several places around. North part is famous for diving and you can find very beautiful diving points.
Well. That is a small summarize about what you can find in Bali. Surf, beaches, nature and party.
Now I want to give some details about the quality in the environmental care. Probably I have been in the most dirty beaches in my life. Not because Indonesian people is dirty. Because sea give back to us our own rubbish.
Several beaches are not developed yet and you can go there to have a relaxing day around nature. The problem is that you will find a lot of kind of rubbish on the sand because no one cares and clean the beaches.
For example, what happend to us in Soka beach. Black sand beach with beautiful landscape but full of plastics. Picture on the right side shows the beach when you get there. Picture on the left side shows what you will find if you walk a little bit around the beach.

As follows you have two pictures showing what kind of plastic and rubbish, even toys parts as wheels.

There is a fishermenvillage on this beach what incrementsthe rubbish on this beautiful beach because they bring it on their nets.
At least some locals try to pick up some rubbish as you can see in the last picture.
Now we have to be concious that beautiful places on earth, are being damage because of our actions.
I will publish more posts about other different beaches.

“You must be the change you want to see in the world.”
“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world – that is the myth of the atomic age – as in being able to remake ourselves.” Gandhi

A post from a follower!

As my blog indicates... This is a blog for sharing ideas about protecting our planet. This is the first post that someone sent me to publish it in C4F.

Friends be aware of the problems we are facing in The Earth. Be conscious and educate your children in order to give them the best future possible. Care for Gaia.
"Children wake up,
hold your mistake up
before they turn the summer into dust.
If the children don't grow up
our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up
We're just a million little god's causin rain storms
Turnin' every good thing to rust.
I guess we'll just have to adjust"
I encourage you to send me posts to careforgaia@gmail.com. I will post them and I will name you as well.

Thanks Sergio P. for this first post!

Happy weekend for everybody!

ElectroCity: A game that turns in good actions

Today post is going to be a little bit different. Several weeks ago I found a website were you can build a virtual city considering environmental issues, politic issues, economic issues, etc.
I saw it interesting and I started to play. You have 150 turns to build the city up and each turn will give you new possibilities for natural resources, energetic resources, and industrial activity and trading.
It was so easy to start and funny! But step by step it was getting complicated becuase you have to make people happy, keep development and respect sustainability and environment.
Finally I passed the 150 turns and my small town was one of the finished ones and it was registered. If you want to have a look click here.
The most amazing part, is that at that moment. I realized that this game is specially for children. Teachers can register on the site and use this game as part of teaching program in New Zeland schools. As follows self explanation:

Our goal is not to provide students with a sophisticated understanding of the controversies in the various energy debates. Rather, our goal is to spark an interest and lay an unbiased foundation for later learning.
We set out to make a game that was fun and educational. A game that gave kids something different to do in class and share with their parents. And a game that was clearly designed and built in New Zealand.
I invite you to check this game out and promote it with your children, friends and everyone. You will have a good time and maybe you can find a better way to build cities in the future.

Pale blue dot (video)

Happy Monday to every reader. Today I want to share with you a beautiful video of Carl Sagan. One of the most important scientist of our time described our planet in one of the most beautiful ways I ever heard. Listen and think about it... awesome.

Quote of the day

As I like to do on Fridays or Mondays here you have a beautiful quote:
I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees.  The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets.  It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day.  It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful.  Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail; and when I hear the coyote wailing to the yellow dawn, my cares fall from me - I am happy.

Video: Waking up

Investigating on the Internet I have found following video. It is very impressive how it can match our daily actions with effects on our planet. That is something I have already talked about in different posts. As follow explanation by producers:

A man wakes up from a nightmare of a forest in destruction. As he stirs other visions flash before his eyes with his early morning actions. Frustration and anger turn to calm realisation as he slowly wakes up to the fact that his daily actions are connected to the world around him. His experience changes from feeling to realisation, then to positive action, as he transforms his life from being part of a global problem to becoming part of the solution.
Waking Up is a short movie to spread a message about:Environmental Issues, Fair Trade Issues, Animal cruelty, Vegetarianism, Animal Testing, Energy Saving, Drought, Global Warming, Climate change, Poverty, Pollution, Child Labour, Deforestation, Leather Industry, Sweatshops, Waste, Gaia, alternative way of living, making a change.

Please watch it, and if you like it, post in your facebook, twitter or other social networks you may use.

Raining day in Shanghai

Yesterday I could not post because blogger was not working well. Maybe because of the censure in China... Today I should post yesterday post, but it can wait till tomorrow. Today is raining in Shanghai and it is more important to condemn a stupid habit that Chinese have when it rains. I will explain you as best as I can.

Shanghai, has many offices buildings. It is the city with more skyscrapers in the world. All of these buildings were built with fancy materials and designed to be the most fancy ever. But nobody thought that it could be a problem when it rains... and in Shanghai, it rains a lot. Every floor is made of slippery materials when water is on them. So coming inside to the buildings when it rains is a dangerous task and an added risk for going to work

This is even funny when you see people slipping... but what I will tell you now will probably make you cry. To avoid slipping people, brilliant Chinese minded person thought: why do not we release a plastic bag for umbrellas when they get into the building? Bingo! they found a cheap solution for this little problem and they can keep their fancy buildings. Here you have the machine... (pic on the right side)
Instead of using carpets, that are reusable and you can keep them for a pretty long time, they deliver plastic bags. Do you know how many people is living in Shanghai? 20 million. Maybe 5 to 7 million of them are going everyday to these kind of buildings and they are receiving a plastic "condom" bag for their umbrellas when it rains.

Each rainy day in Shanghai, uncountable plastic bags are being delivered within any control and making our planet more dirty.
(Here you have a happy Chinese with his plastic bag)

And here on the right side you have the result of an umbrella with it "condom"
I do not know if you can see the damage that it represents to our planet. And I am pretty sure that it is not something that it is only being done in Shanghai. Other cities in China are doing as well. And I am pretty sure that many other countries in the world have the same stupid habit. Tomorrow post will make you think deeper about it. It is a video about our daily actions...

By the way, I was inspired to post it today because I refused to use the plastic bag for my umbrella and someone in the door tried to force me to use it. I did not know that water is worse than a plastic bag...

PS. Of course I did  not use it and I use my hand to drain the water from my umbrella.
