Ocean's glory and horror / La gloria y el horror de los oceanos

Hi all, I am sad to share this video that give us a real situation of our oceans. I was looking for some videos about this matter and finally I got a good one that explains the excessive exploitation of the oceans and it situation. Brian Skerry is a photographer for National Geographic and he is sharing with us what he saw and pictured with his camera.

Locals fishing on the beach / Locales pescando en la playa

Today I am posting a video where we can see how locals fish on the beach with a handmade net. Kids are helping their fathers to pick up the fishes and learn about how to do it. They were explaining me that they do not come every day. Just sometimes, in this way they let the fishes reproduce again. This is sustainability.

Para hoy os he preparado un video donde los locales pescan en la playa con una red artesanal. Los niños ayudan a sus padres recogiendo los peces y aprenden el arte de la pesca. Estuvieron explicándome que no vienen todos los días, solamente de vez en cuando. De esta manera, dejan a los peces recuperarse y reproducirse de nuevo. Eso es sostenibilidad. Whales Hunting

Sorry for this absence last week. I have been busy and I could not keep posting.

I would like to share with you an interesting new about the whales hunting. It defines how the whales and other animals hunting changes the ocean.

We usually forget oceans are the origin of the life on earth. With our actions, we are changing the oceans ecology and as consequence of it, the balance of the planet.

Let's stop the abusive hunting!

The thaw in the Artic Ocean open two new sea-lanes!

I have been searching some information about the global warming and I have found this terrific new on a Spanish newspaper.
The new is in Spanish but I will try to summarize the key points:
The ice layer in this region grow up in winter and is reduced in summer. But each year the rhythm of thaw is higher. Nowadays the situation starts to be critical.
The worst scenario is that new sea-lanes are open ed because of that, and the economic and political interest of this area will not make the situation better. The Artic Ocean is a shorter connexion between Europe and Asia and it is specially interesting for the oil industry.

We have to stop the thaw in our poles. The consequences are really dangerous and we are not taking care of that. It already has started, it depends on all of us to change this dramatic situation. Think in every action you do, if you are contributing to the global warming. Let's change our habits! Our planet will be glad!

OCEANS (DOCUMENTARY)

Dear followers! Last year I watched a very beautiful documentary called Oceans. I would say is the best documentary ever because of the images they filmed and the great idea of showing us that the oceans are extremely connected to us and rest of living being on earth. Here you have the trailer. However you should watch it and FEEL it.

Daily actions turn into a world effect

This post is for those people that are willing to change our world but they do not know to do it.


Everyone that is worried about something, try to find a solution. Depending on the size of the problem we are able to find a solution in a faster way or slower way. However, for global problems as pollution on earth, animal extinction, war, famine, people usually think that they cannot do anything and they give it up... They consider that the problem is on hands of others and they cannot do anything for help.


This is the first, and most common mistake that human makes.


It is true that we cannot eradicate the famine in one night, or that we cannot remove all pollutant gases from our sky in one week... but our daily actions turn into a world effect.


Think about it. Imagine that you are in the beach, and you see a plastic bottle in the sand. You have two options: 
- Not pick it up: You did not throw the bottle, and it is not your work. Why should you pick it up?
- Pick it up: Someone  unconsciously threw it, but this is your planet, your house and you know that this bottle should not be there.


The action you choose has an immediate effect in the world. You probably never thought about it. Look :
- If you do not pick it up, the bottle will be there, probably it will go to the sea and it will take around 50 years for degradation. In this process, there is a high percentage of probability that fishes, birds and other animals (even humans) were affected for it.


- On the other hand, if you choose the second option the effect is completely different. This bottle will be probably recycle and reused after a long process. No animals will be affected, the ocean will be a little bit cleaner and the most important thing: If only one person, only one... see what you did and realize that it is the correct choice, next time will not be only one bottle but two. You implement an idea in someone else, this is what makes our daily actions turn into a world effect.


The power is inside us, everyone can help. Do not forget it.

Rubbish in the oceans

It is disgusting when you are walking on the beach and you see plastic bottles, cans, cigarettes and other rubbish on the sand. But no one is picking up when we see it.

All of it is going to the sea, contaminating oceans and killing fishes and birds because they thing it is food.

Here you can see a TED documentary where Mr. Charles Moore explain it in a very understandable way.

Now it is up to you if you keep ignoring this rubbish after knowing what you did not know before.

PLEASE DON'T THROW RUBBISH AND PICK IT UP!

The Gaia theory

I think the first post after welcoming post should be about Gaia Theory. It is an interesting point of view about how the planet behaves as a system.

If you have watched AVATAR (the film) you will easily understand the theory.
