Quote of the day

After all, I don't see why I am always asking for private, individual, selfish miracles when every year there are miracles like white dogwood.

Locals fishing on the beach / Locales pescando en la playa

Today I am posting a video where we can see how locals fish on the beach with a handmade net. Kids are helping their fathers to pick up the fishes and learn about how to do it. They were explaining me that they do not come every day. Just sometimes, in this way they let the fishes reproduce again. This is sustainability.

Plants made of plastic bottles / Plantas hechas de botellas de plástico

In one of my trips around The Philippines I went to Moalboal. Moalboal is a small village 2 hours from Cebu that have a lot of famous diving spots. I went to have some beers one of the days and I found plastic plants made from plastic bottles. It is not the most fancy plant, but definetly is a good way to reuse a plastic bottle in an environmental friendly establishment.

When I was in Manila, I went to a famous shopping center at Makati. This place has a lot of western restaurants and shops where Filipinos and foreigners can buy and go for dinning. I was so glad when I found reclying cans around the whole center. Of course I took a picture to show you that The Philippines are really worried about environmental issues.

Quote of the day / Frase del día

"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."

John Burroughs

How to be eco-friendly with a plastic bag

Here you have a video I took yesterday. My friend Elmn from South Africa is showing us how to be eco-friendly with a plastic bag. The important thing is not the plastic bag itself but the way to use it.
Definitely it is an easy way to be more efficient and eco-friendly. Thanks Elmn

Manila, sunset and rubbish

First of all wishing all of you a good week! Monday is the best day of the week, because everything starts again!

Here I go with Monday post. I was at Manila few weeks ago and I went to see the beautiful sunset on the bund. Here you have a beautiful picture I took there while the sun was being extinguish by the power of the ocean. This is awesome...

But when sun has gone, we have another reality over there. We can find a lot of rubbish just there, were the sea    and the land share a piece of space. Obviously, this rubbish has been delivered by ocean. Maybe you think I am very focus on rubbish from the oceans, but the true is that everywhere I go, I find thousands of kilos of it. And it makes me wonder if I am alone in this fight... I will never give it up, and I will share thousands of times more if I keep finding it.

It is horrible when you see that the beauty of the nature is being damaged for the human being.
The consequences of this are really serious. Animals and plants are dieing because of our wrong habits. Think about that when you use and throw out your rubbish.

The Philippines: Manila, planting trees

As I was explaining you in a previous post, The Philippines is taking a lot of care about environmental issues. The intention is good, but sometimes the country is not prepared and you can still seeing not very good things.
Anyway, I will give you some examples of both things.
We can start with a very good thing. Very close to Intramuros(old downtown) there is an avenue where Filipinos can ask for plant their own tree to fight against the global warming. Here you have some pictures of the avenue and one of the trees. Definitely, every city in the world should copy this great idea from our friends.

Niger

I have been surfing on the Internet and I have found something really disgusting. Niger is a country in Africa where companies as SHELL are spilling toxic wastes as oil and other chemicals.
The delta of Niger river is already polluted in quantities that we can consider extremely dangerous. There are places where plants cannot grow anymore and animals and humans are affected. Life expectancy has been reduce in around 30 years. Cases of cancer have increased and children born with deformities.
Here you can find a link where you can check an oil spot spilled by Shell. Of course Shell say that they are not the responsible of this and they refuse to clean the zone.
Shell oil spot
Experts say that this area would take around 25 to 30 years to be cleaned and the initial cost would be 1 million USD.
Just judge yourself.
